My serious interest in photography started in 1998 when I took a black and white film class.  I fell in love with the magic of the darkroom and the creative process.  After moving to Zimbabwe for a year I returned to the darkroom and honed my skills further.  I spent two years working and studying at the Chicago Photography Center.

I’m drawn to photography because it forces me to slow down and interact with the world more authentically. The camera has been my tool to share the stories of countless people I've met on my journey. More images are on Instagram @michgav
